We welcome in a new show in July that is full of vibrant scenes from young Devin Brook's dreamworld and relics of a bygone era assembled into curious arrangements by Kelly Harrison.Kelly Harrison

PAINTINGS BY DEVIN BROOK : Artist Statement
The images in this show reflect a creation process based in enjoying profound memories, life, and landscapes of a singular moment.  Maybe speaking to the potential to reincarnate past scales of thought and time at whim, finished works evoke intentionally vague experiences and places. Void of the incessant stimulation of today's technocratic society, the viewer can innocently travel through these moments.  Art by Devin Brook is not meant to be considered abstract in thought. Much like a child's imagination, the paintings draw from simple pleasures and vivid subconscious creativity; reminiscent of places in time you have been, would like to go, or...if you are lucky...already are.

ASSEMBLAGE SCULPTURES BY KELLY HARRISON: Artist Statement
This series of sculptures was constructed from antique sand-casting molds. When I first found them, filthy with more than a half-century’s worth of soot, grime and dust, I mistook them for metal objects. They were all handmade sometime between 1900 and 1930 for casting iron machine parts during the modern industrial revolution. Each piece was painstakingly carved and shaped from white pine and southern yellow pine. I think each one is a work of art unto itself. Cleaning each piece requires a lengthy, and intensive four-step process. The sculptures themselves are put together with archival glue, and stainless steel rods. Except for the small, drilled holes, I make a real effort to not alter the component pieces, trying always to restore to them their former patina, and luster. I found inspiration for several of them while researching the life of Margaret Bourke-White. Her photographic celebration of the industrial revolution of the Early 1920’s and 30’s coincided with my discovery of the molds. They hark back to a time when the great mills of Biddeford and other mill towns were alive with the sound of steam engines, and the clatter of gears, cogs and wheels.
